Bushnell Spotting Scope, Is It Right for You?

Article by T. J. Peters

Coming in a compact and strong package, Bushnell spotting scopes guarantees efficiency for birdwatchers, hunters, and marksmen that enjoy using their portable spotting scope, as it provides a magnification level of 20X to 60X. They are also very useful for surveillance work as well as in any other situation where a regular pair of binoculars underperforms. They are designed with special optics to always show upright images with a focus on terrestrial observations.

Comparison

Compared with binocular, spotting scopes are very powerful. They offer more clear results than does binocular. Bushnell spotting scopes, designed for terrestrial viewing, provide greater magnifications than their binocular counterparts. They are, therefore, gaining in popularity with enthusiasts of the outdoors.

Some Details

A world’s high points of brightness, clarity and edge-to-edge detail are some of the benefits that come with using a spotting scope, irrespective of whether one is doing bird watching at the sea level or the timberline level.

Bushnell spotting scopes give you top performance so you won’t need to waste time working with low power equipment.

Refracting Objective Lens

In most cases, spotting scopes optical assembly is made up of a small refracting objective lens, together with an image mounting system that utilizes image erecting lenses or prisms as well as a removable eyepiece. The removable eyepiece allows for different magnifications.

Types Of Spotting Scopes

You can choose between straight or angled designs depending on how you will be using yours.

As the name suggests, the straight spotting scopes have got their barrels and the eyepiece being parallel, while the angled ones have an angel of 45 degrees between the barrel and the eyepiece which allows for the bending of the light path. In essence, there are advantages and disadvantages of these designs.

Viewing Similar AnimalsSome animals show almost no differences in looks which makes it difficult to distinguish between the species, especially for new wildlife watchers. Sometimes you will need to use the highest level zoom to see the tiniest of difference in color or pattern.

I purchased this scope for use at my gun clubs range. At 25 yards and 100 yards it worked perfectly. All images were clear and sharp. It’s very easy to zoom, and the focus works well too. I wear glasses, but still found the eye relief to be decent. The hard case is real nice, but something I’ll never use. The soft carrying case is sturdy and compact for transfer back and forth to the range. I was able to fit the scope with eye piece still attached in the soft case, and still had room for the tiny tripod. If your looking for a good compact scope, this one works well for the price. The tripod is ok for shooting from a bench, but would not be stable for most other uneven surfaces.

I like the compactness, but I don’t really need it. The optics are okay, but there’s a lot of stuff for less than half this price which is equal to the optics. As with all zooms, the 15-45 eyepiece does not deliver the optic quality of the 25x eyepiece. Definitely 5 stars for the packing and case: every possible way to pack and carry this tiny little guy. Definitely 5 stars for the compactness. Somewhere around 3 stars for the optics (I have a pair of Swarovski binoculars, so I KNOW what 5 star optics look like). I also have mixed feelings about the angled eyepiece. Good for looking up, but not easy to sight-align to a distant object. Since I don’t put a premium on the compactness or weight, I’ll probably swap it for a better optics albeit bigger/heavier.

I purchased this primarily for its size. I wanted a small scope that would fit in my range bag, and the collapsible feature struck me as being a great feature.
    Yup…it’s made of plastic.
And no, I wouldn’t use it in a driving rainstorm.
And I own a pair of Nikon Monarch bino’s…its optics aren’t as crisp, but it was 1/3 the price.
But it’s optics easily allow me to see my hits (.22) at 100yds, which was difficult with the 8x of the Monarchs, and after two years of near weekly use it functions as good as the day I purchased it.
The nice hard case is a waste to some. Most, like me buy this scope for its size…why buy a collapsible scope to carry it around in a large hard case.
But my 8 year old uses it to carry around all his Halo figures…so what the heck…I’m not complaining.
